‘Museveni has become a Monster’ – Beti Kamya

The Uganda Federal Alliance [UFA] Party President Ms Beti Olive Namisango Kamya, who has been out of the country for more than three weeks, has taken her fight with Museveni a step further by declaring that Museveni is a monster who must be removed by all means.
Kamya made the remarks at the official launch of UFA-UK Chapter which took place on Saturday 16th July at Premier Inn Hotel located along the Old Kent Road in south London. Kamya’s UFA has thus joined Uganda People’s Congress [UPC] and the Democratic Party [DP] who led the way in setting up party branches in the United Kingdom. The two were later followed by FDC and NRM respectively.
In her speech, Kamya, a former presidential candidate in the February 2011 elections said, “…it is only UFA which has a clear ideology. NRM, DP, UPC and FDC have all promised Buganda federo. UFA wants to “de-Bugandanise” the federalism debate and “Ugandanise” it because federalism is not only good for Buganda but for the entire country”.
The UFA President also talked at length about the causes of Uganda’s political problems and then said UFA had concluded that Uganda’s political problems emanate from colonial-style centralisation of power in the hands of the occupant of State House. She then vowed to remove Museveni from power. “…We must get rid of Museveni by all means because he has become a Monster”, Kamya said.
The new UFA-UK Chapter Executive Committee is lead in the interim by Mr Akim Odong. Kamya’s sister Edith Kamya is the Interim Deputy Chairperson and another person called Dan Kamya [who did not attend the launch event] was named as UFA’s Secretary for International Relations.
In the same week of its maiden venture into the Diaspora however, the nascent UFA also faced some unsubstantiated allegations on facebook that its Party President Ms Beti Olive Kamya was in fact in London to covertly mobilise Ugandans, especially northerners, to abandon opposition parties and join the ruling NRM.
Commenting on Uganda Correspondent’s facebook announcement of UFA’s launch in London, someone calling him/herself “Wadi Patiko Oloya”, a regular commentator on the ‘Activists for Change’ facebook page said, “…she’s working deep undercover for the Museveni regime. Her plans is to infiltrate UK members, her job is to split [the] opposition base”.
We have no way of verifying the validity of these claims. Beti Kamya herself admitted that she is aware of such rumours doing the rounds on the internet. “…I hear people saying online that Kamya has come to London with bags of money from Museveni. Whenever we want to move forward, some people want to pull us back. But UFA will move forward”, Kamya vowed.
Although Beti Kamya openly fell out with FDC after which she formed UFA, both FDC and UPC officials attended the London function to [as FDC’s Charles Okwir put it] “…give moral support to UFA”. Mr Okwir also gave Kamya a copy of his vitriolic anti-Museveni book called Portrait of a Despot.
