The time for a final liberation has come – Besigye

File photo, is it time for liberation from this?

The ongoing government recruitment of militias is a very clear indication that Museveni’s government is preparing to unleash violence and harrass opposition supporters, IPC presidential candidate Dr. Kizza Besigye has said.

“…We are obviously concerned about more than just his [Museveni’s] statements.  At the moment, the government is recruiting militias from every village and the police are lying to us that militias are being recruited to help with the election.  But we know for sure that this is part of the preparations that are being made to carry out violence and harassment of our supporters”, Dr. Besigye said.

The IPC leader however said he also has “great faith” in the capacity of the people of Uganda to see through the lies being peddled by the police over militia recruitment.  He further said that when the time comes, Ugandans will find a solution to it.

“…I have great faith in the people of Uganda.  They know exactly what the government is doing and they have been urging me to prepare to respond accordingly.  My response to them has been, and still is that this is not a struggle for Besigye’s future alone.  It’s a struggle for the future of Ugandans living today and the next generation.  So all of us must prepare to make painful sacrifices to deliver the Uganda that we want for ourselves and our children”, Besigye said.

Dr. Besigye also said he believes that that time has now come with the 2011 elections.  “…The time for a final national liberation has now come with these elections.  And Museveni’s own actions will determine how the people of Uganda go about liberating themselves from the NRM dictatorship.  The choice is their; not ours”, the confident sounding retired Col. said before excusing himself to attend a meeting with members of his campaign team.

Dr. Besigye is challenging Museveni for the presidency of Uganda for the third time having failed to do so in his 2001 and 2006 bids.  On both occassions however, Besigye accused incumbent President Museveni of fraud and the Supreme Court agreed with him but stopped short of nullifying Museveni’s fraudulent “victory”.

Dr. Besigye has since said that he has now learnt how to guard his votes that he will announce his own election results this time round.  END. Please log into www.ugandacorrespondent.com every Monday to read our top stories and anytime mid-week for our news updates.
