Judgment Day: May the best men and women win

By Our Editorial Team

14th Feb 2011

In just over three days from today, a very big day in the history of our country will be upon us.  Friday 18th February will be the long awaited day when millions of Ugandans will head to the polls to cast their votes for their preferred presidential and parliamentary candidates.

For many of these Ugandans, the issues that will determine which box they tick will be varied.  From their personal economic situations to national security; from democracy and the rule of law to the state of the nation’s infrastructure; from the state of the nation’s health and social services to allegations of nepotism, cronyism, and corruption; all will be judged in the privacy of the polling booth.

Both incumbents and challengers will be holding their breath as the nation decides.  For all contesting incumbents, their record of service will no doubt be a big factor in the minds of the electorate.  For the challengers, the credibility and or viability of their alternative programmes for office will also be put before the powerful court of public opinion.

Of all the contests however, it is fair to say that the outcome of the presidential contest will be the most significant in determining the future of Uganda from February 18th onwards.  As a publication, we urge all Ugandans to remain peaceful but absolutely firm in their determination to see off any attempts to intimidate them throughout polling day.

You must not allow your one and only big vote in five years to be stolen by any candidate you didn’t vote for.  It’s your fundamental human right to express yourself freely through the ballot box.  The stability and prosperity of your motherland Uganda rests heavily on your shoulder and your single vote.  Guard your vote jealously and make sure it counts.

If you have been offered money to vote for a particular candidate, then it’s your day to show whoever tried to bribe you that you are the BOSS.  It’s JUDGMENT DAY and it’s your day to be the JUDGE.

May the Best Men and Women Win!
