All pre-independence kids must be vote out in 2016

By Deo Kasansula

16th January 2012: As we enter the year in which Uganda’s Golden Jubilee falls, it is my honest belief that Uganda’s younger generations (that is, those born after 9 October 1962) should take the reins of our beloved country from 2016 onwards.

After all, the vast majority of Ugandan voters in 2016 will definitely have been born after 1962.  I therefore appeal to these voters to exercise their right and vote into Parliament only people born after Uganda gained independence. To me, (we) the older generations have miserably failed our children.

We are the ones who created (and are therefore responsible for) the messy environment our younger generations find themselves in.  Further, many in the older generations cannot even keep up with current technological advances. The older generations should therefore leave the political scene peacefully and let the younger generations take political power.

Look at countries like the USA where President Obama was born in 1961 or Britain where David Cameron, the Prime Minister, was born in 1966. Compare this with people like Henry Kajura Muganwa who was born in 1934, or Edward Rurangaranga who looks equally as old.  Can you imagine that Henry Kajura was actually interviewed last year for his current ministerial job by MPs who are younger than some of his children?

Something is definitely wrong. It now seems obvious to me that the older generations have nothing new to offer in as far as Uganda’s political future is concerned.  Let us hand over the reins to our children.  They are bound to do a better job, especially as they will know what NOT to do.  END:  Please login to www.ugandacorrespondent.com every Monday to read our top stories and anytime mid-week for our news updates.

I agree with Deo Kasansula’s argumement that, pre-independence citizens should give way for the youths to assume political power in Uganda, but I only ask his youth MP’she refers to in his article to pass a law that caters for the elderly’s benefits like in Britain and USA, that he refered to.
Deo should know that elders refuse to hand in power for lack proper and sufficient social security that, they would be condemned to perpetual suffering. So, if all the elderly would be taken care of like in Botswana, by government very well, no one would resist at a job.
    Thanx Deo and good luck.
