British Council holds kids sports festival

By Sharon Tibenda

30th January 2012:

The British Council, through the International Inspiration programme, held a mini-sports festival in Mukono district on 19th January 2012. The festival was held at a local primary school with 200 children from the community attending. They took part in various games ranging from football to tug-of-war. The participants were primary and nursery pupils.

The festival was organized and run by youth sports leaders who were taking part in a ten-day residential Youth Sports Leadership training programme. The programme was an International Inspiration initiative aimed at providing local tutors with skills, knowledge and understanding needed to facilitate high quality youth sports leadership courses. It was attended by 15 local tutors and 60 young leaders from 15 schools around Uganda.

Between 14th and 20th January, International Inspiration also organized a visit to the UK for Uganda government officials, UNICEF, and British Council.  The visit offered an opportunity for the Ugandan delegation to share experiences with their UK counterparts in the field of sports and education.  END:  Please login to www.ugandacorrespondent.com every Monday to read our top stories and anytime mid-week for our news updates.
