Besigye could be eliminated soon

By M. Suleman

15th Oct 2012: There is little to write about Uganda’s golden jubilee celebrations, because in the eyes of many, it was just a celebration of Museveni’s success in consolidating his dynasty.  In fact, Museveni’s new 10 point programme should seriously worry Ugandans.

Point No1 of the new 10 point programme talks about “fighting ideological dis-orientation’’.  Considering the NRM’s guerrilla background, and what guerrilla movements are known for, “fighting ideological disorientation” may actually mean eliminating “kipingamizis”, or those opposed to the NRM ideology.

This is what Stalin did between 1936-37 with “the great purge’’ and it’s the same thing that Hitler did with his “night of long knives’’.  The NRM’s record of “fighting ideological disorientation’’ is not new.

In fact, it was the cornerstone of NRA’s policies during the 1981-86 bush war that brought Museveni to power.  Many NRA fighters were executed in the bush because of this.  From reading John Kazoora’s book, we can now conclude that NRM Vice Chairman Moses Kigongo was lucky to have survived execution.

Since then, it has been meted out in varying dozes to dissenting groups and individuals.  In his letter to Charles Onyango Obbo, Mr. Museveni talks about “annihilation” – finishing the enemy off.

That is what Museveni believes in – and many NRA soldiers talked proudly of how they “annihilated’’ UNLA soldiers.  Most of UPC Chairmen and individuals in Luwero triangle who were deemed to “ideologically disoriented” suffered the same fate.

Museveni has been in power for 26 years.  It’s not because there are no courageous and patriotic Ugandans who can fight him. It is because he has been consistent in ‘annihilating’’ the charismatic and truly patriotic Ugandans viciously opposed to him.  It is this policy that has sustained Museveni in power.

Uganda had truly patriotic citizens who were deeply committed to the welfare of Uganda. They were people who abhorred dictatorship, and would not have allowed Museveni to degenerate to this level.  Unfortunately, they all perished under mysterious circumstances.

Men like Lt Namiti, Lt Kiiza, Brig. Smith Opon Achak, Nkwanga, Kayira, Paul Muwanga – to mention but a few.  Anyone who worked with these gallant sons of Uganda will tell you that they would not have hesitated for a minute to take Museveni on using whatever means they deemed most appropriate to liberate Uganda.

Today, Dr. Kizza Besigye stands out as the most patriotic and uncompromising Ugandan who is ready to die fighting for Uganda’s freedom than watch it collapse under the weight of Yoweri Museveni’s vicious tyranny.

Unlike many, Museveni has failed to buy Besigye off, failed to intimidate him, and failed to break his resolve to see Uganda enjoy democracy and good governance.  There is no doubt that Museveni sees Besigye as the most “ideologically disoriented” man in Uganda – a fact that makes Besigye Museveni’s number one enemy.

Considering the NRA/NRM’s record, it is impossible to imagine that someone within the system is not plotting to annihilate Dr. Besigye – just as they did to men of Besigye’s calibre in the past.  END.  Login to www.ugandacorrespondent.com every Monday to read our top stories mid-week for our updates
