Museveni is now incriminating himself

By M. Suleman

22nd Oct 2012: What goes around comes around. Like Lady Macbeth in Shakespeare’s Macbeth – when she was overwhelmed by the amount of bloodshed spilled by her husband, she ended up unknowingly disclosing all the crimes they had committed during her sleep walking sessions.

Uganda has of late been witnessing similar sleep walking sessions from Museveni & Co.  Museveni was the first.  After so many years of demonizing those who dared to challenge his monopoly of leadership “vision”, he finally came out on his own and publicly confessed that he is not the only person with the vision for Uganda! .

Then, in what was “the confession of all confessions”, Museveni came out and asked for forgiveness for the killings and other evils meted out to the country.  Those who have documented the NRA’s massacres in Luwero triangle, Northern Uganda, Rwanda, DRC, Sudan, and during the ‘Buganda riots’ could put it in millions.

The innocent blood of these millions could easily fill a small lake.  Again, like Lady Macbeth, Museveni just stopped short of mentioning names – but there is no doubt that he is now haunted by the ghosts of the innocent souls massacred by his bloodthirsty agents of death.

But Museveni is not alone.  Museveni’s comrade in arms General David Sejusa (who was formerly known as David Tunyenfuza) also confessed, one might say, perhaps even without knowing that he was confessing to sins that have been (rightly or wrongly) attributed to him.

For example, when Tunyefuza warned against the creeping “lawlessness, impunity, and primitive arrogance”, he surely couldn’t have forgotten that he is the king of what he was warning against – his brutality in northern Uganda bears true testimony to that.

Again, like Lady Macbeth, Tunyefuza appears to have forgotten that the “creeping lawlessness, impunity, primitive arrogance and insensitivity” that he warns against are actually the hallmark of Museveni’s 27 year reign.

Had he forgotten that it was his NRM government that hauled millions from their homes and packed them into inhuman IDP camps for over 15 years?  Was this not the greatest insensitivity one can ever witness – especially considering that up to 1,000 people per week were dying in these ghastly IDP camps?

Turning back to Museveni – has he already forgotten how his government bribed MPs in broad day light to change the constitution so that he could continue rigging elections to retain power?  If that is not “…lawlessness, impunity, primitive arrogance and insensitivity”, then what is?

How about the fact that all the top Generals in the army are from his Western region?  Is that not “…impunity, primitive arrogance and insensitivity”?  How about the fact that he rapidly promoted his son to the rank of Brigadier? Is that not “…impunity, primitive arrogance and insensitivity”?

How about all the derogatory – albeit subtle insults hurled at the ‘Kabaka’ (King) of Buganda?  How about the fact that Museveni refused and continues to refuse to recognise the King of Ankole?  Doesn’t all that represent “…impunity, primitive arrogance and insensitivity”?

There is no doubt that Museveni’s over-stay in power is finally catching up with him – because he is now beginning to incriminate himself without knowing it.  END.  Login to www.ugandacorrespondent.com every Monday to read our top stories mid-week for our updates
