Small Western Uganda tribe faces extinction

The Basua people, a little known Ugandan tribe of just one hundred people, is facing the threat of extinction, IRIN news reported last week.  According to IRIN, the Basua were forcibly removed from their forest home two decades ago.  They have also struggled to cope with modern life and have been ravaged by health crises, including HIV.

The Minister of State for Internal Affairs Mr James Baba has said the government has found no evidence to suggest that police officers tried to assassinate Daily Monitor Photo Journalist Isaac Kasamani last week as he covered the fracas that ensured during the walk-to-work protests of last week.

Britain appoints new ambassador to Uganda

The new British High Commissioner

The British Foreign and Commonwealth Office [FCO] in London has announced the appointment of a new Ambassador to Uganda.  In a statement issued last week, the FCO said Ms Alison Blackburne will be the new British High Commissioner to the Republic of Uganda.

Kenyan ethnic clashes claim 18 lives
